Clearstory

The objective of a clearstory window is to let the sun (daylight) penetrate deeper into the building, thus making more efficient use of the sun. Clearstory windows are typically vertical windows and should be placed in front of intended mass walls, usually at a distance approximately 1 to 1.5 times the height of the wall to be most effective.
Regular windows can be used, but use the most energy-efficient windows. Be aware of the fact that heat rises and if not covered at night by insulated shades, these windows can lose a significant amount of heat. Some even install motor- driven window shades to insulate the clearstory at night.
