Save College Hill

Southern Evergreen is proud to work with Preservation Greensboro and the College Hill neighborhood to raise awareness and inspire debate regarding the opportunities for re-development at College Hill.

How can College Hill be re-developed?

Use Adaptive Reuse techniques to re-develop the existing Newman industrial complex and develop the remaining site into single family and multi-family medium and low density family housing.

This is a perfect opportunity to introduce LEED design and construction elements and be sensitive to the environment and the context of the College Hill Historic District and other neighboring structures.

Successful Adaptive Reuse Case Studies:

Weston Miles Architects , Morgan Hill, CA

Located on a long, narrow site, sandwiched between the railroad tracks and an un-finished section of Downtown, the old Granary was the most prominent reminder of this area's once preeminent agri-business.

The goals were achieved by designing an adaptive re-use of the existing building, retaining the Granary's form, structure and foundation, transforming a drafty, dark industrial building into an efficient, bright structure using LEED criteria in addition to standard design practices.

The Renovation of the site included several small buildings that have been re-worked into an Art Gallery space and a trash/recycling enclosure

O'Neill Conrad Oppelt Architects Inc. and Alamo Architects, San Antonio.

Underutilized commercial/industrial area just south of downtown San Antonio .

LEED Silver Certification for the new office space by reusing as much of the existing materials as possible in the refurbishment of the two buildings and efficiently renovating the buildings to resemble their industrial beginnings.
